FMS and the American Red Cross are continuing our partnership to help support nonprofit organizations working in Hurricane Katrina-impacted Mississippi communities to enhance the emotional well-being of children and adults. This second phase of grants immediately follows our initial effort that focused on youth.

Over 5,600 Hurricane-Affected Youth Attended Programs This Summer!

Over the last several months, the American Red Cross Hurricane Recovery Program provided grants to nonprofits serving youth in the Hurricane Katrina-impacted areas of Mississippi. Through grants to local organizations, FMS and the American Red Cross helped extend quality enrichment activities and summer programs to 5,600 hurricane-affected youth.

The Visionary Leadership Institute is hosting the 4th Annual Gathering of Women In Ministry Leadership from September 13-15 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

The VLI's much-anticipated gathering is designed to build pastoral leadership for women in ministry leadership. This fourth-annual, two-day assembly intends to help leading women restore and revive their spirits, develop their leadership skills, and fellowship with other women in ministry.

The conference, entitled "The Church Rising from Silence to Action: Health Disparities", will focus on the faith community's role in improving our region's health status from heart disease, HIV/AIDS, obesity, cancer, diabetes, to mental illness.

Included on the agenda of keynote speakers is Hope Morgan Ward, Resident Bishop (United Methodist Church, Mississippi) and Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, M.D., M.B.A., President and CEO, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Victoria Rowell from The Young and the Restless will also be present to share her story and participate in the awards ceremony for the 2007 Bridge Over Troubled Water Awards and the Mary Moody Finer Woman Award. These awards bring the total of grants given in the Mid South through The Baxter International Foundation Health Recovery Fund to $1.1 million to support the recovery and restoration efforts of community-based health care clinics, nonprofits, and other community-based health services after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
