The Foundation for the Mid South and the American Red Cross (“ARC”) partnered to provide grants in the Hurricane Katrina impacted area of Mississippi (primarily the FEMA designated six counties of Pearl River, Stone, George, Hancock, Harrison, and Jackson). The primary focus of the grants was in the six counties, but programs throughout Mississippi that were serving large groups of youth displaced as a direct result of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, or Wilma were encouraged to apply.

This partnership is a part of the ARC's Hurricane Recovery Program. The program includes a health component entitled Building Community Resilience which focuses on providing emotional support to the communities impacted by the storms. Included in this program is a component specifically for youth enrichment.

The Youth Enrichment/Summer Camps fund provided support to organizations serving a necessary function for families and the community as they continue to recover from the trauma and loss and sustained stress of Hurricane Katrina. These funds were for Summer 2007 only.
