The Mid South Middle Start initiative is completing its final report to the region outlining the research, impact, and earnings from the initiative over the
last several years. The final report, which will be available soon online and in an auto run CD-ROM format, will provide specific data, research findings, and analysis on the initiative's success in the least equipped and poorest middle--grades schools in the region. In addition, the report will include a number of insightful testimonials from practitioners and partners on the impacts that (MS)2 has had on their work, their schools, and their communities.

The auto run CD-ROMS will be available soon after the online release date. Please contact >>> Elizabeth Sandifer if you would like a complimentary copy sent to you or your organization.

An initiative of the Foundation for the Mid South from 1997 until 2005, Mid South Middle Start's purpose was to build a middle-grades reform movement in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Mid South Middle Start's partner schools represente one-third of the school districts in the region.

With a generous grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Mid South Middle Start was designed as an educational improvement initiative for the middle-grades. (MS)2 sought to improve learning and healthy development for all young adolescents by providing:

  • professional services to schools and districts;
  • collaborative alliances with national and local organizations; and
  • advocacy and research.

Middle Start worked to create schools where every middle-grades student benefited from high expectations and high levels of support for learning, achievement, and positive healthy development.
