On September 13 in Baton Rouge, LA, the Visionary Leadership Institute will gather 76 of its regional pastoral excellence grantees from 2003-2006.  These pastoral leaders across more than 15 denominations will share their experiences and learnings from attending seminaries, colleges, conferences, peer covenant groups and networking, which were all funded and facilitated by the Foundation for the Mid South, Lilly Endowment, Inc. and the Visionary Leadership Institute.  The grantees will share how they have worked with other partners to alleviate poverty and social injustice and how they have built their own capacity as well as other visionary pastoral leaders in the Mid South.

The Convening of Grantees will feature Dr. Robert Franklin, distinguished professor of Social Ethics at Emory University and author of Crisis in the Village: Restoring Hope in African American Communities.  Dr. Franklin will provide an astute and provocative analysis of the state of black America and take a look at four key institutions in black America: family, church, black colleges and universities, and civil rights organizations.  Grantees will respond to Dr. Franklin's call for practical and comprehensive action from within the black community and from all Americans.

This Convening will also allow grantees to showcase their projects and share ministry tools and resources.  It will also highlight the ministry of women in the Mid South and further connect them to one another and other regional and national ministry resources.  This convening of grantees will be followed by the 4th annual Mid South Gathering of Women in Ministry Leadership “Yet, Still I Rise” from September 13-15 at the Baton Rouge Hilton Capitol Center.
