MID SOUTH GATHERING OF WOMEN IN
MINISTRY LEADERSHIP

Held April 14-15, 2005
Pine Bluff Convention Center
Pine Bluff, A
rkansas

The Mid South Faith-Based Development Center and the Lilly Endowment hosted a gathering designed to build pastoral leadership and development for women in ministry leadership. This second annual, two-day assembly consisted of workshops; panels; group discussions; and ministry in word, song, and dance.

Attended by pastors, clergy wives, administrators, nonprofit leaders, Sunday school superintendents, children and youth ministers, and other five-fold ministry leaders, the gathering was designed to help leading women restore and revive their spirits, develop their leadership skills, and fellowship with other women in ministry.

The conference included an open and spirited panel discussion on the views, positions, and perceptions of women in ministry leadership and the barriers they face. Panelists -- both men and women -- voiced their opinions in support of and opposition to women's involvement in ministry leadership. The Center hopes that the discussion will be the springboard into further regional dialogue and research on the roles and status of women in ministry leadership throughout the Mid South.

Workshop included:

  • Prayer and Intercession that Move Mountains;
  • How to Get Your Church Financed and Built;
  • Mentoring and Succession Planning;
  • How to Incorporate Your Church/Ministry; and
  • Non-government Grant Opportunities up to $10,000 without a 501(c)3 status and many more.

Included on the agenda of keynote speakers was Reverend Mary Whitley Moss, Minster of Christian Education at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Dr. Jennifer Johnson, Co-Pastor, Full Counsel Christian Fellowship/A Call to Excellence Ministries of Pine Bluff/Little Rock, Arkansas; and Pastor Harry Li, Mosaic Church, Little Rock, Arkansas. In addition, the Vesper Choir from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff provided inspirational ministry through song with a special performance as well as Psalmist Bill Chaney of Jackson, Mississippi, and violist Lindora Baker of Shreveport, Louisiana.

Also, New Horizon and Its Ministries of Fordyce, Arkansas hosted a tour of its facilities. Those in attendance were amazed at what all a small rural church has accomplished with visionary leadership and a heart to transform its community.
