The Foundation for the Mid South is committed to promoting the rich history of African American giving and has established a task force of philanthropic and business leaders in the African American community to help promote awareness and provide information on strategic giving opportunities to black donors. FMS also created the Mid South African American Philanthropy Fund tol provide opportunities for African American donors to invest in African American philanthropy that can strengthen communities and help provide social, racial, and economic change for the region. From September 21-23, 2006, the second Mid South Regional Conference on African American Philanthropy will be held in Little Rock, Arkansas, to benefit those involved or interested in African American philanthropy and African American fundraising. The Conference offers a series of keynote speakers including Ambassador James A. Joseph, Dr. Robert Michael Franklin, Jr., and Rodney E. Slater; workshops; business and philanthropy sessions; and an awards ceremony. The conference is a collaboration between the National Center for Black Philanthropy, the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service, the Center on Community Philanthropy, with funding provided through a grant from the Foundation for the Mid South.
