With generous support from the Ford Foundation, the Mid South Commission to Build Philanthropy has helped shape a new vision for philanthropy in the Mid South and developed concrete strategies for increasing the availability of philanthropic resources to the region's communities and nonprofit organizations. After the Commission's report is released to the region in January 2005, the Foundation will begin to implement the recommendations of the Commission as a core part of its work as well as to seek partners such as community foundations and other philanthropic entities to assist in this endeavor.

In 2004, the Foundation launched two groundbreaking efforts as a result of the Building Philanthropy Initiative - the Raised Up Right Fund and the Mid South African American Philanthropy Fund. The Foundation is reaching out to groups such as expatriates and African Americans to establish these funds and to play a leading role in building the Mid South's philanthropic resources.

FMS releases 5 new resources to the region
Since 2003, FMS has worked to more effectively pursue its commitment to promote equity in the Mid South. We recognize the importance of sharing the experiences from our organizational transformation process with a wider audience.
